Concept
GRID is designed to be a sound sequencer, it is neither a drum machine nor a sequenced synthesizer, but some kind of hybrid of the two. It was designed to have no tabs and a single set of controls for the sound source.
GRID is a perfect addition for any style of music; it can be bent and twisted into a variety of sounds. It is open to be used in whatever context you wish to use it. From minimal techno, to ambient soundscapes; 8-bit chip tune to distorted glitches – GRID is what you make of it.
8×8 Matrix Sequencer
The central part of GRID is the 8×8 matrix sequencer. This is where the patterns are created using 8 steps along the x axis and 8 voices along the y axis.
Voices are like partials of an additive synthesizer, or like notes in a scale. They can be either depending on how you with to use GRID.
Each voice can have its own pattern length, allowing for interesting polyrhythms.

Sound GenerationGRID’s sound generators can be set to either Analog or Digital modes, which affects more than just the sound of the oscillator, but also the behaviour of the envelopes and the tuning. EffectsThe effects section of GRID is both simple and powerful:
In addition to these, GRID’s control feedback controls allow for crazy textures from insane glitches to pure noise |
Pitch Modes
|
With GRID you can choose between controlling the pitches of the voices by musical scales, or mathematical spreading. GRID comes with 15 different scales and 12 different tuning styles for the melodic mode; and the option of spreading the voices by pitch or by harmonic series when in harmonic mode. ModulationGRID has three modulation sources: 2 step sequencers and 1 LFO, which can be routed as you wish. The voices can have their amplitudes and envelopes scaled relative to their position on the GRID. |

Tactile Control
GRID comes with a TouchOSC version and templates, for control via iPad or iPhone (Android compatibility is not yet possible); as well as a Launchpad version for use with Novation’s controller.
